Exploring a Hidden Gem in Mexico City: The Allure of Ignacia Guest House
In the bustling and surreal landscape of Mexico City, nestled in the vibrant Colonia Norte, lies a hidden gem that has captivated visitors from around the world – Ignacia Guest House. This quaint retreat has earned international acclaim for its exceptional interior design, architectural beauty, and meticulous restoration. Designed by Andrés Gutiérrez, the revamp of Ignacia Guest House pays homage to its namesake, a woman who served as the French-style mansion's housekeeper for over 40 years.
As an interior designer, I stumbled upon this charming hotel on Instagram while planning my trip to Mexico City. I sought a complete experience, including fine dining, local taco spots, exploring museums, and private home tours of renowned architect Luis Barragan. Join me on a journey to explore the enchanting Ignacia House, where every detail tells a story of history, tranquility, and impeccable design.

Balcón 2, features a king-size bed with a cloudlike slumber experience and a high-design headboard retro-woven in gray and white. Original French doors lead to a tiled terrace under jacaranda shade, adorned with dazzling marble and mirrors, paying homage to Mexico’s pre-Hispanic culture. Ideal for single or couple travelers seeking an artistic retreat. Ignacia Guest House
We stayed in Balcón 1 on the second level of the townhouse it offers two queen beds. Adorned in terra cotta shingles, white-oak floors, and Mexico-designed furnishings, private balcony and botanical views. As well as a luxe marble bath and access to Ignacia’s rooftop for relaxation and a pre-Hispanic-inspired hot tub dip. It was perfect for two friends on a stylish, cultural getaway.
Breakfast in Paradise
One of the highlights of Ignacia Guest House is the delightful room service breakfast served in our garden. We indulged in chilaquiles, fresh coffee, orange juice, and fruit. The carefully curated breakfast menu adds culinary delight to the overall experience, making mornings at Ignacia House truly special. Our in-house team of chefs serves traditional Mexican breakfast plates like scrambled eggs (or huevos a la mexicana) and chilaquiles – tortilla chips lathered in red or green salsa, usually topped with an egg and cotija cheese.

For individuals with a keen appreciation for interior design, Ignacia Guest House is a true visual delight. Its interiors skillfully fuse contemporary elegance with traditional Mexican aesthetics. Every nook and cranny of Ignacia House weaves a captivating tale, from carefully selected furnishings to unique artwork, enriching the overall atmosphere with warmth and sophistication. Our experience was elevated with the indulgence in chilled mezcals, a delightful addition available every afternoon at 4 p.m., bringing an extra touch of luxury and cultural richness to your stay.
Guests can be found perusing the extensive collection of Mexican literature in the original home’s library and living room. The lobby captivated me with its thoughtful design, incorporating art books, ambient lighting, and artisan pottery to create an elegant ambiance, resonating with the vibrant essence of Mexico City.
